As A necessity for life, food is something we need every day. For some of us, food is our favourite part of the day; for others, food is merely a necessity that we treat like air. What about you? How often do you think about what you consume? Are you a food lover who requires diverse choices? Do you mind skipping meals. Here are a few situations that will help you understand what food really means to you.
You are lactose intolerant, thus you've avoided all dairy products your whole life. You are also a vegetarian. To your surprise, there is only one food stop on your school trip, and the restaurant chosen only offers options containing meat or dairy. You've never had dairy, so you don't know what reaction will result from your lactose intolerance. Up to this point, meat has also been a no-no. However, you haven't eaten for the entire day and you're considering risking it. You're sure dinner won't be cooked when you get home in a few hours, so this is your only chance to eat.
WOULD YOU RATHER:
• Risk eating the dairy or meat? (40%)
• Go the rest of the day without eating? (60%)
• "LOL, I was told I'm lactose intolerant but still eat things like pizza, so I guess I would test it out. (Jackson, 16)
• "I always have to find something when I get home anyway, so I'm sure I could just do that." (Jody, 16)
Recently, you've got tired of your mother's cooking, complaining to her that it is the same options every day. She cooks a lot of vegetarian food and uses mild seasoning. She refuses to compromise her kitchen and buy what you want from the supermarket; however, she says that you can buy/order all the fast food you want, as long as you can pay for it yourself.
WOULD YOU RATHER:
• Continue eating what you mother cooks? (40%)
• Live on fast food that you have to buy yourself? (60%)
• "I can't live the fast-food life. I actually prefer homecooking, so I would take that over constant fast food." (Nicolia, 17)
• "l already live on fast food that I pay for by myself." (Christopher, 15)
You and your best friend decided to adopt a health challenge as your new school year's resolution. While making the commitment, you were under the impression that you would both forget about it after a month. However, your friend is insisting that you complete the full six-month challenge and treat yourselves after. The terms of the challenge can be met by either a diet plan, where you cut out almost all carbohydrates and fatty foods, or a fitness routine, where you work out for 90 minutes, five days per week. All your favourite foods contain carbohydrate and fat; however, you hate doing physical activity as it makes you feel extremely tired.
WOULD YOU RATHER:
• Take the diet? (40%)
• Do the fitness routine? (60%)
• "I've had to fast before and that's basically like dieting. I think I could manage for six months, as long as I get my cheat days, LOL. "(Gabriella, 17)
• "I love food too much to do that, plain and simple. I can always eat as much as I want and work it off." (Antonette, 17)
