The Gleaner’s Youthlink hosted the 17th staging of its annual CSEC seminar, which is primarily set to highlight challenging topics that students may face in the upcoming examination period. This year the five part chain commenced in Savanna-la-Mar, followed by Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, then Mandeville before ending at the Mico University College for the final segment in Kingston. Traditionally, each seminar started with an English Language session in the morning, students would then break for lunch and when returning the final gathering which is the Math session would have them locked in until it was time to leave. Flow which was this year’s sponsor also added to the festivities by allowing participating students to win call credits, and a Smartphone.
This year did not open as how the Youtlink team would have wanted, seeing that merely one school showed up for the session in Savanna-la-Mar. Only A few Grange Hill High students got the chance to partake in the day’s activities, with that being said the seminar instructors Karen Young Miller (English) and Mr. Howard Atkins (Math) did not allow that to detract from their sessions, continuing with humours interactions and well detailed presentations. On the other hand, or next segment which ws in Montego Bay had a very large turnout from schools within that area. Mount Alvenia High alone came in with a whopping 216 students which made it somewhat unfair when it for the daily giveaways, which had other participating schools mumbling. To end the western session we had a very cool and relaxed day in Ochi Rios with the aid of Mrs Leng who filled in for Mrs Young Miller, until it was time for a lunch break and Multi Media decided to have a little fun with the students, which even got a few reps from the Gleaner involved.
