Green
Pond High School was stung by the Spelling
Bee, evident in the administration's exciting
attempt to help students improve in English
language while developing their vocabulary
and competitive skills.
The
recently concluded competition saw three
outstanding students from the grades 7-9
category. These students have demonstrated
the potential to overcome obstacles while
enhancing their literary skills. Among those
excelling were Tania Tennant, Julienne Green
and Cheddiann Barnett.
Tania
Tennant, 13, first place:
The
competition has been a very good one for
me. In the beginning it was difficult but
as time progressed, the desire to win pushed
me to continue. I also knew that nothing
was possible without God. When I was not
busy preparing for this competition I enjoyed
reading, spelling and playing video games.
With God's blessings I hope to become a
doctor.
Julienne
Green, 13, second place:
I
was uneasy throughout the competition but
gradually I became accustomed to the rules
and all. I became confident and strove to
be the best and I hope next time I will
place first. To the rest of the competitors
who did not make it to the finals, you are
all winners. Your strength and determination
helped me throughout the competition.
In
my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing
and singing. I want to grow up to be a criminal
lawyer.
Cheddiann
Barnett, 13, third place:
The
competition was a great experience for me.
I learnt so many things that will remain
with me and give me wisdom in life. Third-place
position is great. My advice to the competitors
is to keep studying and never doubt your
abilities. In my spare time I enjoy reading,
going out and studying. I have my eyes set
on becoming a nurse.
