Growing
up, many of us were told not to talk to
strangers, and for good reason. However,
if we don't talk to strangers, how will
we ever meet anyone new? Youthlink asked
these teens how they approached a stranger
they were attracted to. Here is what they
had to say:

I
was shy once, so if there was a
guy who looked physically appealing,
I wasn't going to go over and just
introduce myself. I'd try to make
eye contact and then smile and hope
he'd come to me.
There
was this one time when I saw this
really cute guy, and I was there
acting shy and whatever, but I did
make eye contact and smile. However,
there was this not-so-cute guy beside
him, and that was the one who decided
to come over to me! I was so upset!
Since that day, if I see a guy I
like, I'll just go over to him.
I've never been embarrassed and
I've actually enjoyed a good relationship
that started coz I just went over
to the guy.

Call
me old fashioned but I'm just not
going to be the one to approach
a guy. What I'll do is let one of
my braver, not-so-old-fashioned
friends go to the guy and see if
he's interested in me. Then he'll
come over to me and we'll start
talking. That's the only way I'll
approach a stranger I like. Otherwise,
I guess I'm just stuck admiring
from afar because there's no way
I'm gonna make the first move.

I'm
a go-getter, so if I see a complete
stranger who I'm attracted to, I'm
going to approach her - put aside
all thoughts of possible rejection
and go to her, introduce myself, and
depending on her answer, I'll either
leave her alone or continue with the
conversation. I've never had to leave
a girl alone before, so I guess I
must be doing something right.

I
don't normally approach a girl I
don't know, coz girls nowadays don't
really respond to guys that approach
them 'one-a-way' if they don't know
them. For me, if I like a girl,
I must know somebody who knows her.
Last month, there was this girl
I had my eye on at school; she was
friends with some of my friends.
So what I did was just hang with
them for a couple days. Eventually,
I had a private conversation with
her and now, she can't stop ringing
off my phone! But if it's some random
girl that I don't know and nobody
else knows, then I'll just go up
and introduce myself and ask her
straight up if she's willing to
have a conversation with me, so
I don't waste my time.
