Search,
click, music! It's a dream come true. Who
among us would dare to be seen with a CD
player, or worse, a walkman, in this tech-savvy
age of the iPod? It is the most popular
music device there is, and even though it
is expensive, many teens fancy it over all
other similar devices on the market. But
how much do they really know about this
music machine?
History
Introduced
on October 23, 2001 by Apple Computers several
months after the release of its iTunes,
the iPod is the brainchild of Tony Fadell.
His desire was to improve the mp3 player,
but his idea was turned down by RealNetworks
and Phillips. He accepted a position at
Apple Inc., as an independent contractor
in 2001, and led the team of 30 that developed
this incredibly irresistible mp3 player.
Following
the end of his contract, mastermind Jonathan
Ive took up the reins and continued to perfect
the gadget to what it is today.
Era
of dominance: It didn't dominate the market
initially, but it certainly took off since
2006!

What's
hot:
- Pick
your choice: there are many
different versions and variations
of iPods to choose from, the Nano,
Classic, Touch, you are not forced
to accept one standard type.
- Entertainment
at your fingertips: with
tons of songs (which you load on
it) and a few games, you have no
excuse for being bored.
- Let's
accessorise!: no two people
are exactly alike; same with the
iPod, since you can purchase accessories
to enhance its appearance and improve
its performance.
What's
not:
- "Gimme
dat": iPods attract
thieves and no gadget is worth putting
your life in jeopardy for.
- "Oh
no!": All it takes
is one 'drop' to shatter the screen
and damage the hard drive.

Honourable
mention: The Zune is giving the iPod a run
for its money, with sales that almost match
the iPod's.

My
view
iPod
has drastically revolutionised the way in
which teens entertain themselves (not to
mention many adults). It is definitely worth
the cost.
