There’s something buzzing at Naggo Head Drive in Portmore and finally, we’ve figured out why. TeamYouthlink crossed the toll and took the poll and it seems, by our vote, that Buzzers is really the ultimatefamily entertainment hub.

Overview

Currently two years old, Buzzers is the headline of Portmore-located family attractions occupying thelower floor of the famous TJ Building. Supervisor, Kimanie Masters told Youthlink, “Portmore is afamily oriented place; it’s like a suburb so who’s going to come here (to Buzzers)…kids and theirfamilies. Kingston has facilities like Jamzone so we wanted to tap into a different market with Portmorebeing the ideal market.”

Décor and setup

Step inside a world of fun and games! At first encounter, Buzzers’ main arcade boasts an impressivearrangement of gaming consoles, food area and ticket booth, setting the tone for a good time. Each gameis never really far from the next one which gives you just enough personal space to play your heart out butnot too much to keep you unaware of what else is waiting for you.Games include: xbox playstation, arcade bike games, basketball games, lucky turn, shooting games, cargames (both single and double player), crane games and for younger children: candy games, mickeymouse and small basketball games. For cooling down and taking a break, the EndZzone overlooking thearcade is your ultimate chill spot in cool, air-conditioned comfort and featuring a two way mirror forwatchful parents to keep a eye on busy kids.

Must-try activity

When there’s so much to do it would seem that this time round the team would have quite a task to votefor a must-try activity but, that was not the case. Instantly, the 5D Cinema Simulator came to mind as weall went on a bumpy and eventful roller coaster ride in a desert somewhere without leaving Portmore.Staffer, Tanesha Walker explained, “It’s like you’re in the movie; rain falls and you feel it raining, youfeel the ride actually moving. It can last five to seven minutes. The cinema is a six-seater; you go insideand you put on your seatbelt and also your 5D glasses.”

Packages

The general Buzzers admission is $500 per person for both adults and kids and gives you one of threecool choices. Walker elaborated, “You can either get a ticket to experience our 5D Cinema Simulation, ten tokens to play the arcade games or four premium tokens for the play station and Xbox.” If it’s yourfirst time, you can take advantage of the first timers’ package. This allows you to experience Buzzers inits entirety with twenty arcade tokens, four premium tokens as well as a hot dog and a drink or popcornand a drink, all for $1500. For groups, every fifth person enters free. Special rates apply to school trips.

For special occasionsAt Buzzers, there is also a lounge area called the Vault which is the ideal oasis for those extra specialoccasions. Masters explained, “The Vault is an area inside the arcade where we keep parties and stuff. Wealso have small corporate events, like twenty or fifteen persons can come in and get a bar tab of $18,000where we’ll serve them a platter of quesadillas, wings and stuff like that.”The Vault comes equipped with a television set, surround sound, board games and is also perfect formeetings and secluded sessions with minimal disturbances. For teens celebrating their birthday, Buzzersalso offer a Buzz Teen package where for $3,000 per teen, you can get the area decorated, a hostess fortwo hours and thirty regular tokens and four premium tokens. The birthday girl/boy receives fifty regulartokens and six premiums, a drink and a platter for his/her party.

Final thoughtsThe true appeal of Buzzers surrounds the plethora of options it can offer to the consumer. The games andfun at the arcade might hold the younger (12 to 15 year old) teen’s attention for longer but the Buzzersexperience does not end there. Next time you’re in the area or whenever you’re looking to up your goingout game, check them out – we know we’re glad we did!
