Denim wear
Stephanie Lyew, Youthlink Writer

The denim domination of the late '80s is back. From military buttoned coats to chambric denim smocks, it seems this casual staple has taken on a different form, easier than spray on starch. Next occasion, before you drag on a plain old denim pants, whether for a quick scoop of ice cream, brunch with friends or a party, why not get all dressed up!

Model: Jodi Chang

Clothing provided by: Candy Apple, Consumer Plaza, 103 Constant Spring Road, telephone 941-8736. Jewellery provided by: Firefly Boutique, 13 West Kings House Road

Location of shoot: Devon House

Nightlife niche

Style: Seamed bust with inset-waist tube dress

Best feature: The material (does not get crushed easily)

How to make it work: The shiny material and studs make this dress the perfect playmate for a fashion feverish female. If you were going for the I-am-living-my-life-the-way-I-want-to look, then bright heels would have been the 'solemate' for this dress, but this dress speaks subtly with silver stilettos, coloured loop earrings and a clutch.

The Sunday Best

Style: Scoop-neck sleeveless top with bubble-skirt dress

Best dress feature: Side zipper (easy to put on without stretching the material)

How to make it work: After early-morning Mass, you plan to meet up with friends and family at brunch so you want to wear a dress or outfit that you won't have to change. This cotton tank sleeveless top and denim dress is long enough for you to stick to the rules and traditions, but still stylish and comfortable for the afternoon; all you have to do is slip on some slippers. Or, if you think it more appropriate, wear with a jacket.

On-the-mall casual

Style: Button-front trench dress

Best feature: Large pockets (space)

How to make it work: Keep it simple, do not 'excess-orise'. Yes, you read right. An excessive amount of accessories can kill the casual look of this dress. Accessorise with gold knob earrings, a slender gold necklace, cute sandals or wedge heels and let the shopping bags do the talking. There's enough pocket space to hold your necessities for the mall (money). Need we say more?
